By Michela A. Pinner
This book covers the piano fingering for major and harmonicminor
scales in 2 octave form as well as the arpeggios. It represents the
scaleand arpeggio patterns in a visual format, showing the fingering for
pianistsupon the keys that form the scale. Scales are presented in the
order of Circleof 5ths, however an alphabetic index is also included at
the rear of the book.
Note that the finger numbers on the diagrams
do notrepresent the position on the key where the finger should press;
the student shoulduse the key depth and move in and out of the black key
area as needed for theirhands.
Arpeggios have been represented
with 3rd finger and 4thfinger choices. In recent times many pedagogues
and expert pianists haverecognised that a player’s hands are unique to
the individual and areincompatible with rigid 4th and 3rd rules. The
player should determine forthemselves which fingering gives their hand
the most balance and control in thearpeggio.
